Pinehurst, North Carolina Attorney

Bio

Pinehurst native, Laura Puleo Kiker, is a discipline, dedicated, mission-focused lawyer.

The 4th of Drs. Ellen and Joel Puleo’s 6 children, Laura was born and raised in the Sandhills.  She brings the habits she has gained being part of the community to her legal practice, including a sense of mission and a dedication to hard work.  Laura thrives on giving back to her community which has given her so much.

She attended The O’Neal School K through 12 and graduated as Valedictorian.  She attended Duke University, where she served on the Duke Honor Council, Duke Mock Trial Team, and graduated cum laude with double majors in Latin/Greek and in Classics.  Laura went on to law school at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA.  There, Laura was a student member of the Virginia Capital Clearinghouse Clinic where she provided trial-level legal aid and services to defense attorneys who represented indigent clients in capital cases in Virginia.  The student body elected Laura to the University’s Executive Committee, which apportions a $500,000 budget to student-led groups and investigates and adjudicates honor system violations.

During her years in Virginia, Laura became Miss Virginia USA and traveled the Commonwealth for an entire year to promote Virginia and her personal platform of educating high school students on the Constitution.  Laura taught a semester course on the Constitution to high school students in Roanoke, Virginia.  She placed in the Top 15 at Miss USA.

Laura brings to Van Camp and Van O’Linda, PLLC many years of experience working as an attorney for the US Army.  Under MEDCOM’s Office of Soldiers’ Counsel, Laura counseled and fought for wounded and ill Service Members undergoing medical board separation from the US Army and provided legal counsel through the VA disability process.

Laura was awarded the ICE customer service award out of all attorneys in her 5-installation region by her Service Member clients for her attention to detail, ability to communicate difficult federal statutes and regulations in a straightforward and understandable way, and quality of reputation with client.

Laura and her husband, Cadman, an active duty Judge Advocate, have moved across the country to Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and back home to North Carolina.  Laura is an avid reader of history and enjoys going on walks, playing tennis, and mentoring young ballet dancers in performance and technique.
